Applications for e-mobility

Solutions that make a difference

New mobility concepts require new concepts in terms of development and design. This is where our future-oriented production solutions come into play.
We offer several innovative applications in the e-mobility market, especially in the field of laser cutting and welding. In addition, as part of the Development and Innovation division, our TechCenter offers advice concerning welding-compatible component design, investigations into process stability, the development of laser-compatible clamping technology, the validation of components and the manufacturing of prototypes / pilot series production.

We currently recommend the following manufacturing solutions in the field of e-mobility:

Laser cutting and welding of bipolar plates

The central elements of fuel cells are bipolar plates, usually made of thin-walled nickel or stainless steel sheets, which are joined together. Their complex structure of flow channels and lines places special demands in terms of a good seal, process times and reproducibility. In the case of the required production quantity, the economic efficiency of the production process is also highly relevant.
As a joining process in serial production, this is where laser welding offers many advantages. With a contour accuracy of 0.05 mm, 100 % gas seal and the lowest levels of heat input for minimal distortion, the quality of the weld is convincing. In addition, it is spatter-free / oxide-free and provides a very high level of consistency in the welding depth. The maximum welding speed and high system dynamics score points in terms of output.

We would be happy to advise you on our solutions, such as the LWC 4-station rotary table with innovative scanner technology for precise and efficient production, or the LCC 2-station system with a small-field scanner and oscillating beam guidance for very high quality. Get in touch with us!

Laser cutting of electrical sheets

In order to improve electrical efficiency, individual sheet thicknesses are being reduced more and more. Today, they are down to < 0.15 mm.
These material thicknesses can no longer be produced or packaged with the very filigree geometries of punching tools. In serial production, this is where the advantages of laser cutting technology come into play.
Another area of application of laser cutting technology for electrical sheets lies in the field of constructing prototype electric motors: Here, 5 to 10 motors are usually built. An expensive press tool is not yet economical at this stage.
With minimal material thicknesses in terms of cutting quality, contour accuracy, burr-free cutting and a homogeneous melt-off edge, laser cutting provides convincing results. Further advantages include the cutting speed, high system dynamics, automation, the output as well as the qualifying that is possible.

Our turnkey laser cutting line for the production of electrical sheets is called LCC 1001e. We would be happy to present it to you in detail. Feel free to contact us!

Laser welding of stator packs

Efficient large-scale production plays an important role in stator manufacturing. The developments for a turnkey laser welding line for stator packs make a significant contribution towards faster production with qualitatively reliable end products.

We would be happy to provide you with detailed information concerning our laser welding cells including a test chain for the production of stator packs.

Laser welding: high voltage heaters

The FLC concept enables the evolutionary production of high-voltage heaters on four clusters per tool/station. The modular design and quick changeover enable a rapid production start-up and optimised utilisation with a cycle time of approx. 60 sec.

We are happy to provide you with individual information concerning the details and possibilities of using flexible laser cells. Get in touch with us!

The future of stainless steel

Stainless steel currently plays a decisive role as a material for batteries in the field of e-mobility. Our welding solutions for handling this material will also put your production on a sustainable path.

Contact us, we will be happy to advise you on an individual basis.

Cell contacting by laser welding

The contacting of battery cells by laser is very precise and effective. Our Laser Welding Cell (LWC) for cell contacts with four stations enables process-parallel loading and unloading as well as high flexibility for geometric contour changes thanks to its innovative scanner optics with vision system. The system can be operated either manually or automatically in order to map different piece count scenarios. In addition, further process steps such as assembly of add-on components, DMC labeling or housing welding can be integrated into the system. We also offer the right system technology for large-format battery modules and higher quantities. Please contact us!
